Borrowed Life.

I was woken up by my sister at 7 in the morning, barely having sleep coming home from snowboarding last night, feeling slightly irritated that she will interrupt my sleep at this time. She was still dressed in her colorful scrubs, with tears in her eyes, and she told me someone we knew was in a car crash this morning.

My thoughts were still discombobulated, i got up with my eyes barely open.

WHO? WHAT? WHERE? were my only answers.

I found out that a good friend was involved, and that she was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name was Princess.

Such devastating news to wake up to on a Friday morning.

I only knew Princess for a short while. She was a respiratory therapist student when I met her. Dressed in her over-sized maroon uniform (she was so tiny), she did her clinical rotations at KMC, where I used to work at. She always had a smile with her braces showing, sparkle in her eyes every time she comes inside my patient's room to do vent checks or to suction my patient. I remember laughing because I tried so hard talking to her in English, only to find out that she also speaks my native language. I used to tell her "you made my nose bleed that night". Then we chuckle and I will ask her questions of  when did you move her in America, where do you plan on working after you graduate? etc., also convincing her to just work at KMC so she can work with me.

After a couple of days, she added me on Facebook and since then, I looked at her like a little sister considering how much she actually resembles my real sister. We never really kept in touch, but i had the chance to message her last month over FB. I didn't know that would be the last.

It breaks my heart to see such young driven soul to pass away so soon. She was only 22. She had a long life ahead of her following her big dreams and building her own family.

I am never the religious type, but i believe God had plans for her. I hope that the family she left behind will gather the strength and support to carry on with their lives.

With her passing, i realize how short our life really is. Driving back for four hours from home this morning, I was able to think about this more and I am reminded that we have borrowed lives and it can be taken back any day, any where, any time.

Live life to the fullest and enjoy the things that make you happy.

Although short, Princess has lived a meaningful life touching many many lives.

May you rest in peace, Ading (little sister in Ilocano). You are in a better place now.
